Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups cranberry juice (or cranberry juice cocktail)
- 2 cups vodka (adjust to taste)
- 2 cups orange juice (fresh or store-bought)
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 2-3 lemons)
- 1/4 cup simple syrup or honey (optional, adjust to taste)
- 4 cups ginger ale or lemon-lime soda (chilled)
- 2 cups club soda (optional, for extra sparkle)
- 4 cups ice cubes
- 1 cup fresh cranberries (for garnish)
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- Fresh mint or rosemary sprigs (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Punch Bowl – Choose a large punch bowl with at least 4-6 quart capacity. Make sure it’s clean and completely dry before you begin. If possible, chill the bowl in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before assembling the punch to help keep everything cold longer.
- Mix the Base – In your punch bowl, combine the cranberry juice, vodka, orange juice, and fresh lemon juice. Stir well with a large spoon or whisk to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed. The base can be prepared up to this point and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before serving.
- Adjust Sweetness – Taste your base mixture and add simple syrup or honey if desired. Start with 2 tablespoons and add more gradually until it reaches your preferred sweetness level. Remember that the ginger ale or soda will add additional sweetness, so don’t overdo it at this stage.
- Add Ice – About 15-20 minutes before serving, add ice cubes to the punch bowl. This helps chill everything down to the perfect temperature. You can also create a decorative ice ring by freezing cranberries and citrus slices in a bundt pan filled with water, which looks stunning and keeps punch cold without diluting it as quickly.
- Add Carbonation – Right before your guests arrive (no more than 15 minutes before serving), pour in the chilled ginger ale or lemon-lime soda. Add club soda if using for extra effervescence. Stir very gently to combine without releasing all the bubbles.
- Garnish Beautifully – Add fresh cranberries, orange slices, and lemon slices to the punch bowl. They’ll float on top and look absolutely gorgeous. If using fresh herbs, add a few sprigs of mint or rosemary for an elegant touch and wonderful aroma.
- Serve and Enjoy – Ladle the punch into individual glasses, making sure each serving gets some of the floating fruit. Keep extra ginger ale or soda nearby to refresh the punch bowl as needed, and have additional ice ready to add as the original ice melts.
- Replenish as Needed – As the punch level gets low, you can add more cranberry juice, orange juice, vodka, and soda in the same proportions to stretch your punch further throughout your event.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the vodka and increase the cranberry juice and soda proportions.
- If serving a mixed crowd, consider making two batches: one with alcohol and one mocktail version.
- The punch will become more diluted as ice melts, so start with a slightly stronger flavor than you ultimately want.
- For outdoor summer parties, freeze the base mixture in ice cube trays and use these instead of regular ice to prevent dilution.
- Vodka can be replaced with white rum for a tropical twist or gin for a more botanical flavor profile.
- Always add carbonated beverages last and just before serving to maintain fizziness.
