A warm, indulgent coffee cocktail that combines freshly brewed coffee with smooth Kahlua coffee liqueur and a touch of cream. This cozy drink is perfect for after-dinner sipping, holiday entertaining, or elevating your everyday coffee routine into something special.

  • Total Time: 7 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ oz (3 tablespoons) Kahlua coffee liqueur
  • 8 oz freshly brewed hot coffee, made slightly stronger than usual
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, half-and-half, or milk
  • Sweetener to taste (optional)
  • Whipped cream for topping (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Brew your coffee. Prepare 8 ounces of your favorite coffee using your preferred brewing method. Make it slightly stronger than you normally would to ensure the coffee flavor stands up to the Kahlua.
  • Warm your mug. Pour hot water into your serving mug and let it sit for 30 seconds. Discard the water. This keeps your drink warmer longer.
  • Add the Kahlua. Pour 1 ½ ounces of Kahlua coffee liqueur into the bottom of your warmed mug.
  • Pour in the coffee. Slowly add the hot coffee to the mug, stirring gently to combine with the Kahlua.
  • Add the cream. Pour in your cream or milk and stir to incorporate. Alternatively, float the cream on top by pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon for a beautiful layered effect.
  • Taste and adjust. Sample your drink and add sweetener if desired. The Kahlua adds significant sweetness, so you may not need any additional sugar.
  • Garnish and serve. Top with a dollop of whipped cream if desired, and finish with chocolate shavings or a light dusting of cocoa powder. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For a stronger cocktail, increase the Kahlua to 2 oz.
  • Use freshly brewed coffee for the best flavor—avoid using stale or reheated coffee.
  • Don’t heat the Kahlua directly on the stove; always add it to the mug and pour hot coffee over it.
  • This recipe is easily doubled or tripled for serving guests.
