A classic mint-chocolate dessert cocktail featuring green crème de menthe, white crème de cacao, and heavy cream. This vibrant green drink tastes like liquid mint chocolate chip ice cream and comes together in just 3 minutes. Perfect for after-dinner indulgence or special celebrations.

  • Total Time: 3 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cocktail 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ounce green crème de menthe
  • 1 ounce white crème de cacao
  • 1 ounce heavy cream
  • Ice cubes (for shaking)
  • Fresh mint sprig, for garnish (optional)
  • Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)
  • Whipped cream, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  • Chill your glass: Place your coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes before making the cocktail. A chilled glass keeps your drink colder longer and enhances the overall experience.
  • Fill the shaker with ice: Add a generous amount of ice cubes to your cocktail shaker, filling it about two-thirds full. Fresh, cold ice is important for proper dilution and temperature.
  • Add the liqueurs: Measure and pour 1 ounce of green crème de menthe into the shaker, followed by 1 ounce of white crème de cacao. Using a jigger ensures the proper balance of flavors.
  • Add the cream: Pour 1 ounce of heavy cream into the shaker. The cream should be cold from the refrigerator for best results.
  • Shake vigorously: Seal the cocktail shaker tightly and shake hard for 15-20 seconds. You should hear the ice clinking loudly and feel the shaker getting very cold in your hands. This vigorous shaking is essential for creating the smooth, frothy texture.
  • Strain into glass: Remove your glass from the freezer. Using the built-in strainer or a Hawthorne strainer, pour the cocktail into your chilled glass. For an extra-smooth texture, double-strain through a fine mesh strainer to catch any ice chips.
  • Garnish and serve: Add your chosen garnishes. A fresh mint sprig adds aromatic appeal, while chocolate shavings provide extra decadence. If desired, top with a small dollop of whipped cream. Serve immediately while ice-cold.

Notes

  • For a frozen grasshopper, blend all ingredients with 1 cup of ice until smooth
  • Equal parts (1:1:1 ratio) is traditional, but you can adjust to taste
  • For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream
  • Make it dairy-free by using coconut cream or oat cream
  • The cocktail should be pale green; if it’s too dark, add a splash more cream
  • For extra mint flavor, add 1-2 drops of peppermint extract
  • Can be made in batches for parties; multiply recipe and shake in batches
